Sorry, but I didn’t like the video very much. It seems that eating chocolate is a bad thing, and that is not true. I myselve like it very much. The video does not show the hurt to the children that live in slavery in the farms that produce part of the chocolate. We here in Brazil produce our own cacao beans (without slavery), but also import chocolate from abroad and there is no way to know the origin and analise if there was fair trade or not. Maybe you can help me.

It’s not that all chocalate is all unfairly traded and some attempts may be used to address the problem but not enought. Chocalte that is not certified as ‘fair trade cannot guaruntee its souce as to if slve labour has been used! ‘FAIR Trade’ chocalte is guarunteed as fair at least at it’s sourced. If a company sells both ‘fair trade’ and chocalate that has not been certified as fair it is still better to buy the fair trade and the more people who change to ‘fair trade’ the message will get across all the clearer as the companys will have to take note that people care. The manufacturer might not care seriously about it’s source but it does care where the custermer places their money.

I did not look at the video, but I have a question about this chocolate business. It is a challenge to find “fair trade” chocolate around here, but I have found some bars. But if a company has 1 or 2 bars that are labelled as fair trade, but they also sell 3, 4, 5 other selections that are not fair trade, then I really should not want to buy from that company at all, right? It seems kinda hypocritical of the company to sell some fair trade chocolate, as if they’re trying to appease their hippie, protesting chocolate clients, and sell other chocolate because most people don’t know or don’t care what fair trade is or that children are slave labor. How do you deal with this? anyone?

I am definitely against child slavery and want it to stop. However, I think this movie is inappropriate. It makes you feel dirty when you’re done watching it. Not because of the chocolate I’ve eaten but because it’s just a bad film. I prefer something that makes you think rather than just disgusts you. Try something edgy next time that is challenging for the viewers, not sickening. I won’t be passing this on to my friends which definitely hurts the cause. I would like to pass it on for the sake of the message, but it’s not worth it.

If you want to enjoy Chocolate but don’t want to harm the little childrens, choose fairtrade brands, Available at the co-op, such as their own brand stuff, or Divine Chocolate, there’s also a few bars available from the big names, but make sure you look for the fairtrade stamp! This means the Farmers get loads more dosh for their beans, they don’t get skuppered by dodgy scales and their children can go to school. If you can’t find it at your local shop, ask the shop keeper and stop buying the non fairtrade stuff – they’ll soon get the good stuff in!!

It didn’t do much for me. A bit gross. I think a little of that and more of the children who are hurt by this.
Like the “Ignorant American” until recently I was blissfully unaware that child slaves were producing most of our chocolate. I want to promote awareness of the issue amongst my friends and aquaintances but I’m wondering why we are not encouraged to contact chocolate manufacturers, especially the global ones, with our concerns and put pressure on them to change their practices. Not sure how to go about this but I plan to try to find out.
